A Concert to Help the Community
by Steve Wilburn on July 26, 2011
Photo of Stephen Wilburn

On Saturday, July 16th, the worship team from Christ Community Church joined together with worship teams from Westminster Presbyterian Church and the Baptist Church of West Chester for Feedback 2011, a worship cocnert to benefit the West Chester Food Cupboard. WCFC is an organization that seeks to assist individuals and families at risk of going hungry in the West Chester area by providing food and other resources.  Members from all 3 churches gathered in the amphitheatre at West Goshen Park and for 3 hours we sang the praises of our God together as a community of believers.  We also asked those in attendance to bring canned and non-perishable food to donate to the food cupboard.  Our goal was to raise 500 pounds of food.  All together we raised over 850 pounds, which was a huge blessing for the food cupboard as donations tend to drop off and needs tend to rise in the summer.

We had a wonderful time not only worshiping God with our voices, but also worshiping him through our acts of charity and our care for the least of these among us.  Thanks to all who attended and donated food.  We're already looking forward to Feedback 2012!

Spring is here again which means it is time for our annual worship team auditions.  We are looking for talented instrumentalists and vocalists to help us lead worship for our Sunday morning services.  If you are a musician at least 13 years of age with a heart to serve God with your talents, we'd love to see if you are a fit for the team.  Please consider joining us on Sunday, March 13th at 12:00pm in room 214 for an information meeting about the audition process.  We'll talk through all the requirements of the audition and cover the expectations of each team member.  I'll also answer any questions you have about the audition process or the team itself.

After we meet on the 13th, I'll have a sign-up sheet for auditions starting the first week of April.  If you are unable to attend the meeting you can get all the paperwork on the church website in the Worship Ministry section.  If you have any immediate questions you can e-mail me at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).

Thanks and I look forward to seeing you on March 13th!

Christmas Choir Starting!
by Steve Wilburn on August 26, 2010

Fall is here which means our Christmas Adult Choir is starting up again!  As always we're looking for new and returning members to join us as we prepare for a Christmas concert in December.  As always there are NO auditions and NO experience is required.  If you love to sing, even if you don't think you sing very well, we'd love to have you join us.  We spend a good amount of time working with people on how to sing correctly and we also give out a host of resources to help the choir learn parts and lyrics.  Everyone 13 and older is invited to attend.

If you're interested in joining us, our first information meeting and rehearsal is Wednesday, September 8th, at 7:00pm in the Chapel. We'll listen to a number of the pieces we'll be singing this year, start working on a couple of pieces and take any questions you might have.  This year our repertoire includes traditional carols as well as pieces by Chris Tomlin, Michael W. Smith, Casting Crowns, Paul Baloche, Joseph Martin, and Mark Hayes, among others.  The pieces reflect a number of different styles from traditional to contemporary but all carry the message of Christ coming to redeem his creation.  You won't want to miss this opportunity to sing praises to God during the Christmas season!

Also if you have children whoa re interested in being a part of the concert, stay tuned for an update on our Fall Children's Choir!

The End
by Steve Wilburn on August 11, 2010

Last Sunday we held our annual summer worship concert at the church.  This year the theme was Jesus: Who Was and Is and Is to Come, focusing on the life of Jesus, hoe He is working in the world today, and his promise to return and restore all things.  It was a wonderful time of celebration, reflection, and sharing together as a congregation.  And it was so cool to see our Children's Choir sing about Jesus!

During the evening though, I couldn't help but think of a number of people I've talked to recently whoa re going through circumstances that I can't even begin to imagine.  Health issues, family issues, work issues.  I noticed several of these people in attendance at the concert worshiping God with all their hearts.  Their faith was truly inspiring in the midst of pain and sorrow.  It made me reflect on the reality that we sang about at the end of the concert, that Jesus is coming again and that he will one day wipe every tear from our eyes as he makes all things new.  To quote the Andrew Peterson song we sang at the concert:

And in the end, the end is oceans and oceans of love and love again
We'll see how the tears that have fallen are caught in the palms
Of the giver of love and the lover of all
And we'll look back on these tears as old tales
After the last tear falls there is love

As time goes on and we have to face difficulty, pain and suffering, it is so helpful to remember that the God we worship in Jesus will return one day to bring his kingdom to its fullness.  It doesn't make the pain go away but it does give us hope and peace in the darkness.  So let's remember to worship Him, not only for what He has done for us or what He is doing in our lives, but also for the promise of His returning which will restore the whole world and bring love in all its fullness.

Well, we're entering the summer months, school is ending and that means it's time for our annual Summer Children's Choir.  All children who have finished 1st-5th grade are welcome to join us as we prepare for a worship concert with the Christ Community Worship Team on Sunday, August 8th.  Our rehearsals will start on Wednesday, June 23rd and will run every Wednesday through August 4th from 3:00-4:30pm in the Chapel.  We'll be teaching proper singing techniques using music games and exercises and will learn a number of songs for the concert.  It will be a fun time for everyone and will give the kids a wonderful opportunity to worship God together and learn about His love for them.  If you have any questions, please contact Steve Wilburn in the church office.

Of Death and Resurrection
by Stephen Wilburn on April 06, 2010

A crazy couple of months has finally ended with a crazy couple of days for the Christ Community worship ministry.  Holy Weekend started with a Maundy Thursday service featuring a beautifully written cantata and a moving performance by our adult choir.  We then shifted gears on Good Friday with a contemporary service featuring the worship team and supplimented by original artwork by congregation members.  And finally we closed the whole thing out with an incredible celebration on Sunday morning with our worship team featuring an 8 person vocal ensemble and separate brass section.  Over 60 people participated in more than 20 hours worth of set-up, rehearsals, and services last week alone, and that does not count the countless hours spent prepping and rehearsing before Holy Week.  Thanks to all who gave of their time and talents to make this such a powerful weekend!

Yet, as always happen, the week is over and life has resumed its normal course, at least for the worship ministry.  I can't help but wonder this year if perhaps something should be different.  We've spent the last week attempting to tell the story of Jesus' death and resurrection and I feel we succeeded in that goal.  But at the same time this should be more than just a story.  The reality of the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus should permeate our lives and ministries so fully that the world around us is transformed with the gospel.  We should not relegate our reflection on the cross to Maundy Thursday or Good Friday, for the blood that was shed is the blood that cleanses us from sin every moment of every day.  And we should not simply rejoice in the resurrection on Easter Sunday, for the power that raised Jesus from the dead is the power that is transforming us and the world into the kingdom of God.  This is the new reality in which we live and it should lead us to worship.

So let us remember the cross and celebrate the empty tomb for the next 51 weeks until we gather again next Holy Week to give special attention to that story, and worship the Savior who has recued us through it.

Worship Team Auditions 2010
by Stephen Wilburn on March 02, 2010

music_120Well it's that time of year again.  Auditions for the worship team are coming up and as always we're looking for talented musicians, vocalists, and most importantly worshipers to join us on our Sunday morning team.  If you're interested in leading our congregation in worship then come to an informational meeting on Sunday, March 14th, from noon-1:00pm in room 214.  We'll go over the audition process, talk about the expectations of team members and answer any questions you may have.  You will not need any instruments for this first meeting.  The actual auditions will take place in mid-April.

If you sing or play guitar, bass, drums, piano, brass, strings, woodwinds, acordian, ukelele, bagpipes, or any other instrument and have a heart for leading people into the presence of God, we would love to have you audition for us.  If you have any immediate questions please contact Steve Wilburn in the church office.

New Song Update: From the Inside Out
by Stephen Wilburn on February 11, 2010

Welcome to out first new song update.  As we learn new songs together as a church I'll share some background and insights on the purpose and role of these songs in our worship.

Recently we learned a new song called "From the Inside Out".  Written by Joel Houston of the Sydney based worship team Hillsong United in 2005, it is a song that has come to represent the hearts of the younger Christian generation.  Here are the lyrics:

A thousand times I've failed
Still Your mercy remains
And should I stumble again
Still I'm caught in Your grace
Everlasting your light will shine when all else fades
Never-ending your glory goes beyond all fame

Your will above all else
My purpose remains
The art of losing myself
In bringing You praise
Everlasting your light will shine when all else fades
Never-ending your glory goes beyond all fame

In my heart in my soul
Lord I give You control
Consume me from the inside out Lord
Let justice and praise
Become my embrace
To love You from the inside out

Everlasting your light will shine when all else fades
Never-ending your glory goes beyond all fame
And the cry of my heart
Is to bring You praise
From the inside out
Lord my soul cries out

Right from the beginning the song presents a transparent confession of our failings as Christians and the hope of God's enduring grace.  Yet even though we fail, as Christians our desire is to do God's will above all else, a goal that requires us to deny ourselves and take up our cross (Matt. 16:24).  The theme of this song is similar to Jesus' teaching to the Pharisees on how to clean cups in Matthew 23.  If you clean the inside the outside becomes clean too.  Likewise, if we allow God to change out hearts and souls, our lives will reflect those changes.  This is the calling of the Christian life and the desire that this song gives voice to.

Easter Choir Underway

It is still not too late to join the choir for the spring season!  We are preparing for a more traditional Maundy Thursday service reflecting on the passion of Jesus.  Joseph Martin and Jim Stanton have written some movingly beautiful music that conveys the mixture of emotions those who were with Jesus in the week vefore his crucifixion must have felt.  As always, all are welcome to join the choir.  There is no audition and you will never have to sing alone.  If you love to worship Jesus with your voice and want to share that with others, this is the perfect opportunity to serve.  I'll see you there!

Welcome to Worship
May 22, 2008

Welcome to the Worship Ministries pages for Christ Community Church.  This is where we'll be sharing about opportunities to gather & serve as worshippers.

We're excited about the many opportunities that we have to respond to God as we gather together.  Every week children, teens, and adults young and old come together to celebrate the One who made us and has called us His own.  From time to time we have additional gatherings that takes us beyond the bounds of our normal weekly experiences.  These include concerts & seasonal worship events.

All of this takes the help of many wonderful musicians and technical support personnel.  If you have a passion to serve using these kinds of gifts, let us know.  We're constantly adding to our numbers.

Stay tuned for more news from the worship ministries of CCC.
