Why do we give?
God tells us in James 1:17 that "every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights." When we pause to consider the many good gifts God has given us - the people in our lives, a roof over our heads, food on our table, the beauty of nature (and so much more!) - we can be incredibly grateful for everything He has given us. But even beyond all of those gifts, He has given us the greatest gift of all. John 3:16, "For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son, that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life." God so loved us, all of us, that He sent His only Son to take on our sins - past, present, and future - so that we could have a relationship with Him forever. We love, because He first loved us. This is also why we give. We give to share the love God has first given us.
What does God say about giving?
In 2 Corinthians 9:6-8, God tells us that "he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully," and that "God loves a cheerful giver." Have you ever given a gift to someone - maybe you've brought a meal to someone in need, given a handmade gift, or served a stranger with an act of kindness - and you feel as if you're almost the one more blessed by giving it? It can be a joy knowing you are giving a gift out of the love God has given you. In Malachi 3:10, God promises blessing as we give our tithe: "'Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, so that there may be food in My house, and test Me now in this,' says the Lord of hosts, 'if I will not open for you the windows of heaven and pour out for you a blessing until it overflows.'"
How do my tithes and offerings serve the Lord?
When we give financially to Christ Community Church, our tithes and offerings are used within our ministries, as well as to reach out to our community, to help them know God and have a deeper relationship with Him. Christ Community Church offers several ministries to reach different age groups and needs: KidsROCK (nursery-5th grade), Students (6th-12th grades), Men, Women, Prayer, ActsONE (missions), Care (DivorceCare, GriefShare, Celebrate Recovery), and Groups. These ministries offer events (many are every week) where people are able to connect with others and grow in their faith. We've also had several successful community outreach events including Tractor Night and Wings n' Wheels. Many new folks have come through our doors, for events like these as well as Sunday services - some even coming to a church for the very first time - and we're able to welcome them and help them get plugged in. Additionally, a very important part of our ability to offer these ministries and events, is the work of our facilities department in room setup and breakdown, and the cleaning and maintenance of our church facility. All of this is made possible through our gifts of money - as well as the time and talents of our many incredible volunteers.
Thank you for giving!
